in over my head..

well after doing another 6ft x 6ft bathroom drywalled I think its time for me to call in the pro's to drywall a 26x30 ft room... how long would you guys think it would take to finish a room like that? ceiling and walls with only 4 doors in it. probably take me 2 months at the rate I am going and messing up mudding just trying to figure out if I should hire that out or not..... not sure what to expect cost wise either... never hired a job out yet, always did things myself unless it was too dangerous for me...

I drywalled all of the ceilings and walls in my whole house. I'd never done it before either... it does take a little time to get the hang of mudding.
But I would just keep going if I were you. What problems are you having with the mudding?

butt joints are driving me nuts.... everything else its fine and on a ceiling I think I am gong to rip my hair out doing them since I can only get 8x4 drywall into my basement

been contemplating either hiring it all out and getting it done fast as possible, hanging the drywall myself then hiring out the taping and mudding... or going insane for a couple months

What about taping the butt edges and texturing the whole ceiling? Or put up tin, or fake foam tin look?
Plenty of options.

nah, I've already decided I want a flat white ceiling, have texture upstairs and don't really like it much.. texture right now would be my last resort

Welp, practice with that big knife! Unless of course you can AFFORD to employ someone else to do it....

I've about decided to just quit telling people about butt boards. No one seems to listen.

When I did my house(and still am for the most parts)I made my own butt boards.Pretty sure I used 11"Wx50" L 1/2" mdf scrap I had.Cut up 2 1" wide thick scrap vinyl I had stapled the full length on each edge.Worked like a champ!!!!!!Don't really need them tho just tried it out.

maybe I just need to hire out the ceiling? its probably not good to have your hand in the air that much if you have poor circulation in your arms, would you think? I think I can handle the walls since there would be no butt joints there

Ha ha no we are talking drywall butt joints.By using these it gives you a slight taper in the butt joint to help tape over!!If this is a problem for you these do help!!!You can buy them or make your own as I did.

You can do it. I'm doing my basement now (1,100 sq feet) by myself. Yes, the butt joints are the worst part for sure, but not impossible. You have to learn that feathering them out 18 inches or so on either side pretty much makes them invisible unless you paint with a high gloss paint. Flat ceiling paint should make them hide very well. Personally the dreading doing them is much worse than actually doing them.
I read everything I could find on this site and ended up asking for clairification on a few points. This place is a gold mine of information and the professionals here are kind enough to help.
One thing I have learned is not to look at ALL you have to do at once. Choose one area and look only at it until your satisfied and them pick another. Before you know it you will have a lot done. I don't move to the next area until I'm satisfied the one I'm working on is ready for primer.
