Original ceiling drywall cracks

I just noticed that one location on my ceiling drywall is cracking and the other location has two spots portruding. (see photos).

Is it bad? Can I just paint it over or does it mean that something is seriously wrong?

I am having an addition done adding to the original house right now and the contractor had a lot of banging on the wood structures. Could that be contributing to this?

My house is a single story ranch house with Gable roof. Thanks!

hi ht abbas, absolutely those nail pops most likely were caused by banging on the structure. most times pops are caused by flexing of the structure.

that and, nails driven through the paper of drywall, which looks like that to me. the tape job wasn't caused by contractor but finisher. that can be skim coated a couple times and be gone.

you might want to cut out those two pops, as it looks like the paper has torn? add a nail or two on each side of pops, and tape over that torn paper or will just pop again shortly.

screws also pop, under flexing. but usually the compound simply pops off the screw head

I'd tape and Spackle those two bad pops with a nail on each side to hold it up and skim cat the tape with 12" or 16" trowel, sand and paint. is quite an easy fix

as always, just my thoughts

good luck
