Need to replace the paper on drywall after pulling some tiles loose.

Hi all,

I've got a tile wall in the bathroom, and due to remodeling we needed to remove some original towel holders and other accessories that were mounted in the late 1960s.

The fasteners were all completely stuck, so we had to pop the tiles loose and gently pull the anchors free of the underlying drywall.

The top layer (the paper) of the drywall came off with the tile.

What material should I use to prep the powdery surface that remains so I can reaffix the tiles? Please do not suggest removing the entire wall and replacing with greenboard - that is unnecessary and impractical in this 2 square foot area in the middle of a large wall.

Does anyone have any experience or creative suggestions as to how to rebuild a surface to adhere the tile to?

Use Gardz to seal the drywall. Then hot mud to smooth the surface.

Gardz - I've looked it up and that is exactly what I need.

Thanks - another win for the DIY forum!

I've used Gardz and it's real good stuff.
