Need guidance on drywall repair

I hired a mature handyman to remove a stubborn wall border. Unfortunately his tool stripped the drywall to the core of the drywall. Using Pirana's wallpaper removal gel I was still unable to remove the border. I need to fix these walls tomorrow. Help and thanks! T

Prime the area to be repaired--wet mud will lift the damaged paper causing bubbles.

Guards or 123 would be a good choice.

Use Multi Purpose (green lid) joint compound or Easy Sand powdered mix---either will bond well--

Thin coats---Mike---

And it's going to take about 3 days at least for this job.
Use a wide knife when applying the dry wall compound.
Apply thin coats like Mike suggested, let it dry, wipe the knife over the surface to knock off the high spots and apply another coat, let dry then a light sanding in a ciruler motion, if there's any low spots of air holes apply another coat.
Paint will not fix the flaws!
The repair will need to be primed before painting.

The time depends on your taping skills---Usually 2 coats needed--use the bag mix and it will be ready to sand in a couple of hours---set times--20-45--90 minutes

i removed a boarder in a room once. it didn't much damage the drywall. but boy, what a PITA it was.
the trick is to get it wet, and keep it wet, for hours.

I was able to remove wallpaper from 2 rooms, but this border is something else. They used a sticky glue that is really stretchy. I'm considering renting the wallpaper removal machine from Lowes. Did u consider or try the machine?

Yes. My brother in law recommended a steam machine that I can rent ... I'm almost thinking of putting a border up and call it the day....
