Mold Resistant Drywall or Greenboard?

Is the "Mold Resistant(retardent) Drywall sold at the big box stores the same or similar thing as "greenboard"? Which would you use in a bathroom?

Just do not use it to lay tile over in the shower or tub area.

Mold Resistant Drywall or Greenboard?

Two different beasts... Mold Resistant; 1/2" thick board, ceiling framing only at 16"o.c., never 24". 5/8" will go 24". with a water-based finish.
Green board, 1/2"; ceiling framing only at 12"o.c., need 5/8" for 16"o.c. 24"o.c.--- use another product. I'd use lightweight 1/2" spans (24"o.c.) equal to 5/8" for anti-sag, and insulation weight loaded above (2.2#).

Mold Resistant Drywall or Greenboard?

Not all greenboard is mold resistant. Moisture resistance and mold resistance are two different things. Ask for a "cut sheet" where you buy it and read the specs. Mold resistant drywall is typically moisture resistant by nature, but not the other way around.

Mold Resistant Drywall or Greenboard?

I've removed a lot of greenboard that looked like cottage cheese after some years...be wary of a vapor barrier/retarder in wet areas (or dry, IMO); http://publicecodes.cyberregs.com/ic...002_par013.htm

Mold Resistant Drywall or Greenboard?

It is my understanding they are doing away with the greenboard. I guess phasing out would be a better term. So what is out there now is just the remaining stock they are getting rid of.
