Low basement ceiling - lighter material to cover it up?
 

I have a dilemma. We are thinking of putting up drywall for our basement storage room, here is a photo:

However, as this is a storage room, if we put up drywall I think the height of that room would be very low, like 5.7 feet or something like that. Other than drywall, is there any other lighter materials that we can use to cover it up, and yet still make it look higher?? I think all we really care about is to cover up those pink fiberglass insulation and make the room look better... Thanks!

Maybe 4x8 sheets of beadboard they are really thin, not expensive, and can be painted but you should start your own thread or the answers can get confusing as to which question is being answered.

cut drywall to width of between the joists. Hold in place with 3/4round, or cove, or 1x1 or 1x2 etc.
Paint it a bright white or a very very slightly gray white color.

Thanks all, just curious, thickness wise, how does beadboard compare to drywall? How about the weight? Does drywall much heavier than beadboard (is it made of PVC by the way)? How do you secure drywall or beadboard to the ceiling? Thanks!

1/4" is the smallest drywall even compared to this breadboard is considerably lighter and thinner. The beadboard I was thinking about is wood and it would nail using small finish nails that way it could be removed if ever a problem in the ceiling. The plastic ones i think you mean have to be glued to the ceiling joists, and the drywall will ned to be screwed to the joists, also the drywall will need to be taped mudded and finished. if you are just wanting to cover the insulation why not use building wrap like tyvek or typar? would allow the floor to breath and provide cover for insulation, easily stapled to joists.
