Inside Corner in Bathroom

I have hardie backer on one wall, drywall on the other. I am using thinset and hardie mesh tape at all hardie backer joints, but not mesh at this corner. Is it OK to use a rigid inside corner strip (with metal and paper extending out) with thinset instead of drywall mud?

I'm not sure, but I'm thinking it won't stick.
But I could be wrong, that's for sure.

What are you doing there--Is it a wet area?
