I too long for my patch job. tape it??

When I cut out a piece I cut further than I needed. I think I was gonna take out a bigger section and realized it was not necessary.
So about 15 inches past the patch. Just a pass with the knife, so the paint and paper is cut. Not realy wanting to square off a bigger piece cuz there is a light there. I hate putting pieces over boxes, cuz for some reason I often miss.

Will it crack if i just leave it.? Need to tape it?
Ive got more than enough joints to try and make invisible, it is not textured and I dont need more work.

An overcut of an inch or so, you might get by with by taking the handle end of your knife and slightly indenting the cut. A 15" cut, you're not so likely to get away with. It will almost surely come back to "haunt" you. I'd tape it.....
