How to fix this cover without making it worse?

As you can see from the pic, the cover for the cable coming out of the wall is crooked. I do not think that its installed properly. The screws are just going straight into the sheetrock. How can I straighten this thing up, without just making the holes in the drywall bigger, and making it worse? I need a more solid way to mount it.

Need one of these. Any box store will have them.
