How can I get away without floating this patch.

I had to cut a 9" square to get access to plumbing..
Double 1/2 wall.

Dare I put the 1st layer of rock on, bevel the corners on the 2nd layer just mud the seam (no paper & or no Fibafuse). I'm avoiding the massive feather I need to do if I create a "thickness" due to paper. It's close to a baseboard that is snug....so feathering on one end will look sorta ~eh~ as I will just feather out around the edge of the baseboard.

Thoughts, suggestions.

Never seen that work----if it doesn't work for you--now the paper will be going over even more thickness---your call---

The seams are probably going to crack just from expansion and contraction.
