How to best fix my texture mess up?

Working on finishing new drywall in a room addition. The texture is "Sante Fe" style. I've done some texture before but not this style so I'm learning as I go.

I finally achieved the general look I was after but I felt my new texture had a "busier" pattern than the rest of the room so I tried to smooth some areas out to make it less busy. Wishing I hadn't done that because now I've got a wall that looks lumpy. I probably could have fixed it by sanding down the lumps until everything was smooth but I didn't notice the problem until after priming the walls.

So now I'm not sure what to do...should sand down the lumpy areas even though they're primer'd or should I attempt to skim coat the wall to even it out and redo the texture where necessary? It's really just one wall...about a 10x10 area...

No clue what "Santa Fe" style is. Textures are called different names in different areas too. I may not be able to help, but a picture would surely help and someone else may recognize it....
