Out west everything is orange peal texture. I think I have done maybe 2 level five finishes in the last year. most is tape two coats of mud let dry prime texture prime again paint. fast cheap and easy. Bleck! But that is what people like and want in their homes out west.
Try this: A coat of orange peel (very small blobs) Then follow that with a "knockdown" after it dries good.
I discovered this by mistakenly applying an orange peel when the customer wanted knockdown...... so I just combined the two. Came out looking really good.
