help with closet drywall in mobile

Doing minor overhaul in a 1995 double wide manufactured home and need some advice on the closet drywall.

The drywall doesn't wrap the header. It hangs down all by itself to provide a "fake" 2" front cover for the sliding door hangers. It's flimsy at best and came off with one yank so I'm thinking of wrapping the header instead.

However, I noticed that the wall side of the closet opening has no framing, it just ends at the wall. If I were to wrap the header how would I join the taping at that wall side? I thought of popping in a 2x3 to frame up the wall side. I thought of just running the tape across the header edges and then a bit caulking where the head ends at that wall.

Not sure if this is making any sense or not but, any suggestions?

Ok, here are some pictures that will better explain what I'm talking about.

The first picture is a view of the closet (the one not torn apart yet).

The second picture is a view from the inside of the closet. It shows the drywall hanging down to hide the door runners.

The third picture is a view of the the drywall removed so you can see the way the header joins the wall and that's the problem I'm having. If I drywall the header properly so it's taped and not hanging down I'm uncertain how to end the tape at the wall. Do I just feather it out over a bit of the wall or just stop at the wall and have some sort of caulking cover the end join. And, what covers the new door 'rails' when they're reinstalled.

Hope these pictures help some.

If it was mine I would tare it all dowe and reframe it. 2 X 3's would work for that light duty.

Laughing hysterically because that's what I said but my fella rolled his eyes and gave me the stink eye. He's frustrated with the fact that every small project I start becomes bigger and bigger as we get behind the scenes.

We did however discuss just tearing out the closets completely and buying standing armoires to replace them.
