Hardiboard or Durock

I am getting ready to start my shower and was wondering which cement board is best to use 1/2" Hardiboard or Durock? This will be going on 2x4 wood studs which I have not put up yet and since the cement board is an odd size should I go 12" centers.

Hardiboard or Durock

Durock is 70's technology, it is crumbly, it smells bad, it is not a moisture barrier. Hardie Backer has better tile adhesion, cuts easier, is stronger in every measureable way. Hardie is the premium Backer board on the market.

Hardiboard or Durock

Now you will be thoroughly confused. I use Durrock--I do not like Hardibacker.

Perhaps I am just old fashioned but I know other tile setters that won't touch the hardibacker--

I use a lot of Durrock. So far 17 years--no failures with Durrock,Knock on wood.---Mike--

16" centers works.
