Hardibacker cement board install

I will be remodeling a bath wall replacing green board backing with Hardibacker cement board.. Questions:
At the corners where the cement boards meet, is it necessary to run a strip of alkali resistant tape down the middle and skim coat the tape with thinset? Or can I just caulk the corner and tile over it?
Hardi says their Hardibacker does not require a vapor barrier (i.e. plastic sheeting) under the Hardibacker first.. What do you guys say?
Thanks.

Hardibacker cement board install

I don't use Hardi Backer ,only Durrock. However the mesh tape on corners and seams is installed as you tile---If you apply the tape and imbed it before you tile you may end up with a 'hump'

Making it almost impossible to get the tile flat.

There are many here who use Hardi--Let's see if it's any different.---Mike---
