Full size brick accent wall

I am putting a full size brick accent wall in the basement we renovated, reutilizing the brick we had removed from the basement.

I have a wood basement now, and am wondering if I should put regular drywall up or something else, if so what?

The wall will be about 20' wide by 8 feet high with a drywall ceiling.

Since you are recycling brick and making a wall out of it, I don't see that you gain anything putting drywall behind it. However, I suppose the drywall might serve is a guide to keep your brick wall as square, flush and plumb as the drywall. I doubt that a real mason would use or need such a crutch though.

Agreed, I am NO real mason, just a DIY'er with a dream trying to keep it's history in this 100+ year old house.

the one wall is an accent wall the rest are being sheetrocked, including the ceiling? Even with a vapor shield, I'd still use a moisture rated board. I get repair calls on a lot of old cantilever's because of drainage issues.
