Durock question

Long story short, I need the back wall of my shower alcove to stick out a little bit further but I already have 1/2" durock up. What would be the best way to handle this without removing it all? Would it be acceptable to add 1/4" on top of the durock? Do I need to take it down and fur it out?

It's so that the tile will be able to overlap the tub tiling flange.

Durock question

Not my permission----remove it and furr it out---the 1/4" may 'bag' and bulge out---it is not designed to hold any weight---
