Drywall Screw Selection

I am putting drywall up over furring strips that are attached to block. The drywall will be 1/2" and the true thickness of the furring strips is 3/4" for a total thickness of 1 1/4".

I've seen that the recommened size is usually 1 1/4" #6. I'm thinking that I will need to go with a shorter screw to get the screw head just slightly recessed.

What do you guys recommend. It will be going up in a bathroom as apart of a Kerdi shower install.

Thanks.

Drywall Screw Selection

I had the same situation and used 1" just fine.
The only problem is go SLOW and be firm but gentle setting them in or they can strip easily and you'll have to move it and try again and have another hole to patch.
