drywall + P&L screws ?

1/2" drywall over P&L ceiling. i bought a box of 2" screws. by just "eyeballing" them. it looks like i will have just under 1" into the joist. will this be enough ?

Not a great plan, I would have removed the plaster first so you can see where the joist are and it would lay flater.

If your going to do it your way I also would use drywall adhesive and longer screws.

drywall + P&L screws ?

yeah, i know. but i can't take the p&l off the ceiling = no time. i have WAY TOO MUCH on my plate as it is.

i used the 2" screws, and they worked fine. i went in the attic and drilled holes on the north side of the joists. so my screws hit the joists. sides, the few times i missed a joist, i could easily tell and put one next to it.

1" penetration into the joist is fine. I would have used adhesive too as mentioned above....
