Drywall meets plaster outside corner

We are wondering how to make the new drywall meet the older plaster with metal corner bead to look flush. We don't want to take out the metal corner bead which is in the plaster because then we have to fix up that wall with new drywall as well. Can we just add mud and tape to the new corner? What are some suggestions?
