drywall install on ceiling
I Am Making A Room 12x24 After I Put Walls Up Will 2x6 Be Heavy Enough The 12ft Length Every 2 Ft Oc To Hold Up 1/2 Drywall For The Ceiling?? I Am Thinking 2x4 Would Be Too Small Or Do You Need To Double Up On The 2x6 Like A Header??

it would hold it up but you wont like the finish. Try to go every 16"OC and by the way, will this ceiling be holding anything on the side? Roof? Attic? Another floor?

If yes to any of these, your going to want to go bigger and definitely every 16.

What It Is A Pole Barn I Am Going To Nothing Fancy Finish Of An Area 12x24, Nothing Over The Ceiling (drywall) Just Some Blown In Insulation And Then Just Texture The Drywall With Some White Paint Mixed In A Few Buckets Of Drywall Mud So You Think 2x6 S Will Be Fine Every 16 Inch Oc??

1/2" on 24 will likely sag unless you buy specific 1/2" ceiling drywall or use 5/8"

Do You Think 16 Oc Would Solve The Sag, I Had No Idea There Was Such A Thing As Ceiling Drywall

DangerMouse 01-24-2009 06:26 AM

i never did either until recently....1/2" ceiling drywall is 'stiffer' to avoid sags, but not as available i've noticed.
i ended up with 5/8" at 24OC in our dining room addition, but my homemade drywall lift made it easy to install the heavier panels.
if you mud/painted and it sagged, i'd hate to have to clean up the mess.

If you are worried about sagging definally use ceiling dryway, if your 16 o/c then normal drywall shouldn't sag if screwed off properly
