Drywall Crumbled -- HELP!

Hello! I'm new here -- and looking for some suggestions on a drywall dilemma. The drywall that our central air vent screws in to has crumbled. Not the entire area of drywall -- just the small areas on the left & right sides where the vent screws into the wall. This has never happened to us before and we have no idea what would be the best way to fix it. Any comments/suggestions are welcome. Thanks a bunch!

Drywall Crumbled -- HELP!

It would be helpful if you would post a picture of the problem.

Drywall Crumbled -- HELP!

as advised pictures would help...

your grills probably or should screw through the drywall into the metal flange of the duct boot. you could try a longer screw...

if drywall damage is outside of the flange of the grill.. repair with drywall compound ..paint .. if the long screws didn't work.. let the above drywall patch set up good.. and screw into that..
