Drywall Ceilings

Does anyone know the Prince Georges County,Maryland rules/codes when hanging drywall ceilings? Is it allowed to just glue said ceilings or are you required to screw or nail for additional support!!??.

hi and welcome to the forum.
ceiling drywall has code as to how far apart to space the screws/nails, thickness as pertaining to joist spacing, and also fire-rating.
around here it must be 5/8" Fire-X type or special 1/2" for ceilings.
i do not think i would trust gluing it alone.....

I'm over in Montgomery County... and I'm 90% sure you need to fasten to the studs (why would the code mention the studs if they weren't required)... also, I'm 100% sure I wouldn't be comfortable sitting/standing/being in that room with just construction adhesive holding it up... :0

i hear that.... me neither.
and that stuff takes about a day to set tight.... how are you going to hold it up there for 24 hours?

I am a disabled Vet. Paraplegic and had this house built
back in 2006 through the V.A. In January of this month my sprinkler system bursts from freezing up knocking down my ceilings in the master bedroom,two guest bedrooms and the hallway.
When the Insurance company's demo crew took down the ceilings they noticed that there were no screws or nails holding the ceilings up just glue! Which means the part's of the house unaffected by the Insulation under sight are also only being held up by glue. I needed to know if this was a legit practice or cutting cost at the espense of the client?

Do you know if P.G. County allows such practices?

I am so relieved that you are checking up on someone else's work rather than planning to glue a drywall ceiling up. PHEW!. Call your city building office and talk to an inspector re: legitimacy in your county.
