Drywall Ceiling span

I am drywalling a basement ceiling and the span to cover the ductwork is 29". Is there danger of the drywll sagging with a 29" span?

Just use drywall adhesive, more screws and 5/8 sheetrock.

definitely 5/8 drywall

Can you span it with flat 2x material first and then add the drywall? Gonna lose 1 1/2" of height but 29" is starting to get out of my comfort area.

5/8 should be fine if i am reading this right its just for around this 1 duct.
