drywall a basement ceiling

Hello all, I am in the 1st phase of finishing my basement. I am currently working on a bathroom. I am at the point where I have to frame in for the drywall ceiling. I have 10'ceiling but have to build a " finished" ceiling below that to hide the duct work. My plan was to run 2X4 joists on end to span the bathroom about 8'. Will 2x4's 16"oc 8' long be able to support 5/8" drywall ceiling and a heater vent fan? I am also planning to add insulation in the void space to keep noise down. Any other suggestions?

thanks!

If possible keep the ceiling height! If the duct is running through part of the ceiling, bulkhead it. Using 1 1/2"x 1 1/2" angle with drywall screws attach one side the other for backing. Assuming bulkhead are not feasible 2x4 16" OC is more than enough to support 5/8" drywall.

Are you using 5/8" board for sound proofing? If not, I prefer 1/2" ceiling board as it is easier to work with and cheaper.
