Considering applying clay plaster such as the American Clay product onto our new drywall instead of doing the whole finished mud and texture route. Any advice or experience out there?
The advantages I see are a wonderful natural product, I don't need to do anything more than tape and mud joints and corners, I don't need to paint, and there is a bunch of pigments available.
Disadvantages are you can't change the color by painting in the future. Cost is probably comparable once you eliminate the finishing steps of drywall plaster
I've done a two coat over blue board
we used a heavy mesh in every joint and angle
it looks really good if it is done right
