Ceiling Drywall

I repaired a leak in my roof after I saw a drywall stain.
Since then, the stain has not gotten larger but the paint peeled , and the stain changed in color.

My question is - is this an indication that the leak isn't repaired, or rather that the chemical reactions in the drywall are ongoing after the leak is repaired.

As the drywall dries it will change color to a rusty kinda look, to paint over this, you will need something like Kilz in a spray can, prior to coating with the matching color.

When its all said and done there is usually more said than done

Kikz makes a can called "Upshot" just for ceilings. You will probably need to give a skim coat (or 2) of mud after priming to fill the "void" where the paint peeled.
