ceiling drywall

i am putting in new ceiling drywall. i want to blow in a bunch of cellulose insulation. is 1/2" ok. 16" oc. oh, wait. i am sistering 2x6's to the old 2x4's. so it will be less that 16"oc.

Yep--You will be fine with 1/2 inch----it's done all the time---

If you are not going to use a roll insulation with a vapor barrier---you will need to add a vapor barrier between the joists and the drywall---

ok, 1/3 it is, as i already have it.

VB, i had not considered that. what is recommended ? that HD or manards has.

oh'mike 07-29-2012 08:47 PM

TYPO___1/2 inch----need to get a new set of eyes!

Fix'n it 07-29-2012 08:52 PM

We need an insulation person here---I always use faced bats--I don't know what would be an accepted vapor barrier---sorry---

princelake 07-30-2012 07:16 PM

i've always put up a 6mm vapour barrier, boarded the ceiling then had the insulation blown in

i have been doing research. it looks as if a VB is not needed, other than the paint (a few layers). in fact, it looks as though VB's are going out of style.

5/8" is the standard according to the Gypsum guide book. and code in 99.99% of places.
Never mind you got less then 16"oc you will be fine.

Yep after tape and mud PVA primer texture and then PVA over that and paint. Vapor retarder.
