Board overing? Sheetrocking over existing sheetrock

If I am hanging sheetrock over top of existing sheetrock can I use 1/4" or should I go with 3/8"? Current rock is 5/8", I going over with new sheetrock just to make the walls and ceiling smooth. 1 1/4" screws ok? or 1 1/2" better?

Thanks

1/4" drywall is fine. The next size drywall screw after 1-1/4" would be 1-5/8" and would be the appropriate length to use.
