it is mandatory? i already did use 5/4" dry wall to avoid noise and heather?
the house has 12" fiberglass @ attic and spray insulation at exterior walls.
Really needs insulation between walls?

I believe at least 1 of the walls needs to be insulated. I believe it is code.
I'm sure there will be a real expert weighing in , but yeah if it were me i would for sure insulate at last one of the walls.

I don't think "insulation" is mandatory anywhere...imagine telling someone in New Mexico that he has to insulate his home for heat loss...!

But depends on what you mean by 'insulate'; for sound or for heat transmission. Double walls between houses need a fire rating and that can be with or without insulation but heavy gyproc will give you the one-hour fire rating we need up here.

But good manufacturing practices will also call for sound insulation between houses made of rock wool batts (which are fireproof in their own right). Heat insulation (like fibreglass) can double as sound insulation but is not all that good but heat insulation is not normally required in between houses - more on the outside walls.

Any insulation would depend on where you live and since you don't say, that's it.

Here in Arizona we HAVE to insulate AGAINST HEAT !! I would imagine it is similar in New Mexico. Our summers are 110+ degrees consistently & we want our houses to be 75(ish) inside. So insulation isn't just for heat loss (it can save you alot on your A/C bill too)
