Anyone ever heard of this?

So, this wonderful beurocratic ridden city is demanding a et of plans for the drywall that I'm going to be hanging. I have never heard of something as foolish as this and was wondering if anyone else has run into this nonsense and if they could offer a link or a sample of what "drywall plans" look like. It's crap like this that makes me avoid getting permits as much as I can.. in this situation, I have pulled a drywall permit... thanks for an advice or insights!

I doubt you are being asked for plans to hang drywall. They may be asking you for plans to hang drywall on the new framing you built. If however, you are legitimately ONLY hanging drywall over existing plaster or framing, you can probably fight the plan requirement. This would be very unusual for normal drywall work. Is there a fire separation issue?
- check what Code your municipality is under
- most municipalities have downloadable documents detailing permit requirements. I suggest you get a copy and see what the details are.
- were you less than extremely pleasant with the municipal inspector? Suck up any pride you have and be very polite.

Nope, I have been polite to them. They literally kicked my permit application out because of a lack of plans.
I have been bent over many times by this muni and have always just taken it and not become hostile towards them.. So, in all honesty, they are requiring plans....
Not a fire separation issue there... I haven't built anything.. just rehanging it in a bath, kitch and a few other areas that had damage.. about as straightforward as it could be....

Are they looking for plans or looking for specs?

Could be a Chinese drywall thing.

Why did you even apply for a permit to do something like this?

1. Not by choice. Cities here have full time inspectors that drive around looking for people doing projects.... if you hang any new drywall, a mandatory permit is required, along with a $100 or so fee, along with 3 inspections. .. pretty sweet eh?

I woulda got busted later in the process had I not.

LOL. The city is located in St. Louis county, MO... just outside of St. Louis... there's many munis with these sorts of revenue generating, progress killing antics...

i am not sure what they really want unless they are asking for architec drawing specifying what thickness you are planning on useing
most is 1/4" unless it is rated for fire controle
in ohio we have inspections before tape coat can be applied
they usually want to know how far you are seperating the field screws or nails each having a proper seperation in the field
rather you are useing glue exct
i would ask inspector for details he or she will tell you exactly what they are wanting and expect

lol wtf, never heard of that for any sort of interior finishing. I would just shut my garage, close the windows, and lock the doors, and go on with my project.
