Use Dog Car Kennels when Traveling with Your Dog

Let’s talk about kennels. Basically there are two kinds of kennels; wire or soft sided. Now if you consider soft sided kennels, think about your dog and if it will get stressed out on a trip either at a hotel or in the car because if it would be stressed out, it might chew a hole through the side. You could of course have some chew toys that would help out a bit but keep the whole stress issue in mind. Let’s take a look at this deluxe wire kennel that I have here in side of this SUV and you can tell that this is a deluxe kennel because it has a stronger metal than some might and also the more doors, the better. You can see this door on the front here and it is nice to have more than one. There is one here and there is one 90 degrees to it on the other side and a pet could enter easily in and out using this door. Some of the cheaper kennels will only have a door on this side which you could see would make it very hard to get in and out of. Now some other nice things about this kennel are that if your house training a puppy, you can put a panel inside that will actually make the area inside smaller so that for the small pup it wouldn’t be tempted to go to the bathroom in the other part of the kennel and I’ll show how that works here. You basically would put in this divider and then you wouldn’t use this door, you would use the other door if the kennel was in your house and you would just move the panel as necessary. Something to keep in mind when buying a kennel is to make sure that it is the correct size for your dog and you can do that by either looking at the manufacturer’s site, by breed, weight or size and basically if the pup or dog is sitting up, you don’t want his head to hit the side of the top of the kennel and if the pup lays down you want them to be able to stretch out so they don’t hit the sides and just make sure that they are comfortable. Something else to think about is the temperature in your car if you were to leave your dog. Just be aware that it can get very hot and that would not be good for your dog. That’s pretty much the wire kennel.
