Oil Change: Drain Oil

Okay, so I am now under the car obviously, and I am going to start changing the oil. We went ahead and we loosened the cap on the top of the engine just to make that oil flow a little bit smoother and we've run the car just a little bit to also make that oil warm up a little bit so it can run smooth also. So we're going to remove the drain plug next, and drain plugs can be arranged in different places under your car. There is usually like a kind of container looking thing that's holding your oil, and then off of that there's going to be what looks like a bolt that you're going to have to unscrew and the oil is going to come out. Now be real careful when you do this, you want to make sure you've got your oil pan here, your drain pan rather, so you can catch all that old oil without making a huge mess. And so we're just going to go ahead and loosen this bolt, and we're going to get that oil draining. It's good to go slow when you do this because you don't want to just have all that oil all of a sudden pop out. So it's going to start with a little trickle usually, a little trickle, and then once it starts getting more loose, it's going to come out even faster. A good thing to also have on you while you're doing this is eye safety, eye goggles, something to protect your eyes. I'm not doing that, but I should be, so make sure you wear eye protection. And you can also use your fingers at some point when it gets a little bit more loose so you can get that oil draining. So now we're going to let it sit, let it drain out completely, and next we're going to take off the old filter and we're going to change that filter.
