How to Maintain Swimming Pool Filters

Hi this is Francisco Cales from Tampa, Florida with Pool Inspectors on behalf of Expert Village and our basic theme for today is pool maintenance. When cleaning your filter the first thing to check is to see if you filter needs to be cleaned. The first thing you need to find out or write down is what is the pressure when it needs to be cleaned and it needs to be cleaned approximately 8 psi after that so if your clean filter psi is 10 and your filter psi reaches 18 it is time to be cleaned. The first thing you want to do is turn off your pump if it is on. When dealing with the filter you want to be extremely cautious and bleed the air out because if you do not bleed the air out the pressure in the filter will accumulate and it is danger. This time I am going to go ahead and turn on the filter again and bleed my filter. Once I see the water coming out I know that the water inside the manifold filter is up to the top. At that time I can go ahead and start unscrewing my filter. There are several different methods of popping out the cover. At this point we will go ahead and use a rubber mallet to shake it up just a little bit and just pop it up. Any time you take off the cover of the filter you need to check the o ring and lubricate the o ring, check the manifold and just generally reinspect the whole canister of the filter. Here is an example of a cartridge filter and at this time we won't be changing out the filter, we just checked the manifold and the o ring. We lubricated it so we will not need to actually remove that filter. This is an example of what the filter actually looks like when it is removed.
