When we closed my father-in-laws estate, we found the attached in his tool box and are wondering what it is. Both cylinders are aluminum, connected by a bracket and approximately 7/8th "in diameter. The right cylinder is almost 5" long and has screw on caps on both ends. The bottom appears to have a wax seal inside and the upper cap houses a cotton wad. Hard wire vs plug in...

I have a house that has a Mercury vapor light in front and I bought the house this way 16 years ago, now I am selling the house the inspector wrote me up for not having the light on a switch. Can I change the outlet to a combo switch and outlet and continue to leave it on a outlet?

Carved Totem Stump

I have a 20 ft high Yellow Poplar stump in my yard that I have had chainsaw carved into a totem pole. The stump was debarked marked off and then carved. It is a standing stump and I would like to retard rotting as long as possible. I coated it with spar varnish and that worked for a while,but now I'm seeing signs of rot near the base. The carving is pretty amazing and actually made the local newspaper and was fairly expensive to do so I would like to preserve it for as long as possible. Any Ideas...

building materials

we are planning to finish the second floor back in the philippines sometime next year...im a handy man abroad ..left phils in 2000 not familiar with material and terms used in building products in the phils...what are the common wall finishings now adays ..ive heard of cement boards what is the common size of cement board in the philippines...i know its possible to use it indoor but how about the studs to nail or screw it ..wood studs i know will do but to prevent termites what can we use metal...
