Carved Totem Stump

Posted 06-28-2014 at 05:21 PM by Totem

I have a 20 ft high Yellow Poplar stump in my yard that I have had chainsaw carved into a totem pole. The stump was debarked marked off and then carved. It is a standing stump and I would like to retard rotting as long as possible. I coated it with spar varnish and that worked for a while, but now I'm seeing signs of rot near the base. The carving is pretty amazing and actually made the local newspaper and was fairly expensive to do so I would like to preserve it for as long as possible. Any Ideas...
